Firstly saying...Merry Christmas 2008 and Happy New Year 2009 for Miss Rachel and for all students...(not only they who join this blog site ^0^ )

Yeah... In this new 2009 year, this is our (12th year students) in Kosayu before we graduate...
Then, in this new term,we are faced with a new material that almost of us do not like it... I know you can guess what I mean...HISTORY....

So, "to put all the thing in a nutshell",I don't agree with the school's management...why can they choose this semester for us to learn a topic which is weighed down the students, like history... Ohhh,it's annoying....

So guys... Do you have any ideas with this problem ??? Of course we don't have any choices again, but please, point out what your opinion is...

  1. Actually,I dislike that history becomes our subject.
But after I think it deeply, I believe that no mistake are ocurred with learning history.
It can enrich our knowledge about something happen in the past.
We can also apply it in our life, and avoiding something terrible that happened in the past.
As John F Kennedy said,"A Big Country always respect about their history"
    Thank you guys.

See you in the other forum.

    Sincerely,

  3. hi,,

    heheh..

actually it's not my place to post,, but it's ok right?
    hehehe..

well, i myself don't think that we have to study history..
okay, "A Big Country always respect about their history", i know this wise word.

but, we are exact students. we have already had a big burden of our exact subjects. and now, we have to study something which actually not our subject. some of us, the science students, really hate to study history. and me, too..

    hahahh..

    so, i'm agree..
    hahah..

    egoistic comment?
    whatever!!!

  4. Calvin,

I am confused. Was History added to your schedule this semester only? Have you had History in the past?

When I was in high school, history was my favorite subject. History can be interesting and fun if you have a teacher who makes it interesting. It's more than memorizing dates and figures. It is learning about what happened in the past, why, and how we can use this knowledge to help us make better decisions in the future.

This is one of my favorite quotes:

"Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it."
    --Edmund Burke

In other words, if we do not study history, we will continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. If we do study history, we can learn from our country's (and the world's) mistakes in the past so that we can make better decisions in the future.

Finally, for Ming, a note about Science and history. We cannot separate history and science; science plays an important role in historical developments. Scientific discoveries, like nuclear energy for example, have influenced the world negatively and positively. How might your future invention affect the world? You need to study history in order to answer this question.

  5. MUHAHAHAH!
I agree with you Cappink! xD

this useless thing really wasted our memory!
and our time, because we should make a presentation!

this one's better not applied in the third grade of science, especially THE SECOND SEMESTER!

    egoistic too?
    whatever xD!

  6. I like to study history, but I hate history lesson.

As usual, I will give the definition of history::

    History
    1. a chronological narrative of past events.
    2. the branch of knowledge that deals with past events
    3. the existing written record of past events
    4. an interesting record of events, especially in relation to a person, place, thing, or family
    5. past events considered as having little present significance

So, History is some kind of 'story' about events in the past. First question is: 'IS IT IMPORTANT'?? Yes, and not just important, it is VERY IMPORTANT. As Danny ad Ms. Rachel wrote, without history, we will do the same mistake. So, It's not just 'waste our brain memory', but history could make us learn something from other's mistake in the past.

Do you know why China has a lot of good strategist, like Sun Tzu, Sun Bin, Zhuge Liang, Zhang Liang and other, whose books are used until now?(the art of war by Sun Tzu & Sun Bin, 24 war manual by Zhuge Liang, but I forget what is Zhang Liang's book title..) It's because, since 1000 years B.C., they had learn about history and Art. They learn their ancestor mistake, and try not to do it again.

But, I understand why some people (I think I also includes in this group...) think that history in this country is just a waste of time. It's because our teacher made us to memorize it, not understanding what was inside it. Even, we must memorize a lot of events, names, dates, when we were in 4th grade. Until now, the memory when I was in 4th grade, and I had to study more than 200-pages of history is one of my most awful memories for me..T.T..I remember that Airlangga had changes his name into 'Sri Maharaja Rakai Halu Sri Dharmawangsa Airlangga Anantawikramottunggadewa' when he was becoming a king. A veeryyy long name, isn't it?? If we must memorize all of their name exactly the same, I'm sure that our head will be bow(Even Einstein can't do this, I think..:P). I think, history becomes useful when we understand it, not memorize it..

Besides, in Indonesia, we just repeat the same lesson again and again. For example, when we were 4th grade (again, because it's my darkest time for history..) we study about human evolution, about Homo Wajakensis, Homo Soloensis, Meganthropus Paleojavanicus, etc. Then in 7th grade, we must learn about it again-the same lesson.. Then, in 10th grade(if I'm not wrong..), Once again we must study about it. Maybe, at first, it would be interesting to know wha happened to our ancestor, what are their mistakes, their decisions, their experiences, etc. But, after studying it again and again, we won't get anything again from that, so it is useless..

So, until now, I like to read history, like Three Kingdom, The Making of Han Dinasty, Taiko, and lately, I just bought one about Rome. But, I hate to learn History at school; it's just a painful task, because it's useless.. I've ever learn about it, and I think nothing again I could gain from re-memorize it.

  7. Andreas,
I agree with you. Understanding historical trends and developments is much more important than memorizing dates and people. For example, it is important to know how the Renaissance movement changed the world; it is not as important to memorize every person who was a part of the Renaissance movement.

  8. Thanks Andreas...I agree with what you've written...
I never said that I dislike the history lesson...
I like it too, like when we were in XI Science class,I like the history lesson which talk about the Ancient Kingdoms in Indonesia such Majapahit, Tarumanegara, Kutai, etc...

But,I disappoint with the schedule allocation of the lesson...

The teachers know that we are in the second semester, and every lesson is heavier than what we have in semester one...

Why they didn't give the history lesson in the first semester...T.T...
I think if the lesson had been in the first semester, we would have enjoyed it...

It will weigh us down, because the lesson will be tested at the last exam too...And the material isn't little...

    So ???

  9. To capping (or calvin)

I understand that if the history were given in the previous semester, then we will have a more relaxing semester. But, you must also understand that we will have the final exam on the 2nd semester in 12th grade, and this can't be changed, because...

    final:
occuring or constituting the end of something

so,even if the history were given in the 1st semester, we still should learn it again for our final exam in semester 2. Isn't that means we should memorize all of those events twice; in the end of semester 1 (for end-of-semester-exam) and in the end of semester 2(for final exam)?

I think it's better to put history for the 2nd semester. This way, we just need to learn it once, and whenwe have the final exam, I think we will remember a lot of hostory stuff, because we have learn it in the end-of-semester-exam... It's like 'kill two bird with one stone'..

  11. OK OK...so as the conclusion, then we must be patient in learning this lesson...

    Ehm...I have another problem...

Again facing this short time before we arrive at the final exam of History...

The history teacher ( I won't said his name ) always implement the same method in teaching this lesson...Power Point Presentation...
I think its useless, because the material that will be presented is too boring...

In the same case, when the lesson is over,we must review it again like we never get it from school...

Do they have another method to teach this lesson more interesting than what we do now ???

Maybe you can share your tactics to learn this lesson, which consists a lot of subtopics...ho ho ho...

  12. I understand what you guys said, but for us, it's NOT necessary to study history this time...

We'd better focus on science lessons, we can study history after we finish our school right?
