Let's debate!

Hi! It has been a long time since someone post something in this blog... So now, to make this blog become more lively, let's make a debate!

Have you ever heard about white lies?
White:
the color of snow or salt; the lightest achromatic color
Lie:
1. an untrue statement made on purpose; intentional falsehood
2. something intended to deceive or mislead
So a white lies means a lie that was done for good reason, but the other option also have good side. Some people say that it is okay to o that, but other say that a lie is a lie. Do you agree with that argument?

If someone lies to a thief about where he save the jewelry, according to te definition I gave before, it's not a white lie; it's a must-to-be-chosen-option, because if you tell the truth, it's just an idiot option; it doesn't have any good side, isn't it?

NB: let me give you the example... A pregnant wife fell sick, and the doctor says that the illness will make the father choose between these option:
1. He give the permission to do abotion so his wife will be survived
2. Both of his wife and his baby will die
Then, he decided to choose option number 1, but he swear to himself that he won't tell his wife about this decision; he just say that the baby couldn't make it due to his heart defect... because he knows if he tell the wife the truth, the wife will e depressed, and she may become crazy..

  1. Yeah, the term "white lie" is very common in English. Someone will say "I told a little white lie."

A classic example: A woman goes to the DMV (the driver's license office in America) and has to fill out a form. The form asks her for her weight. She writes in "120 lbs" instead of her true weight of 140 lbs. We would call this a "little white lie."

A white lie isn't always a good lie. Sometimes it is just a harmless lie. In this case, who cares that she lied about her weight? It doesn't hurt anyone? What do you think?

  2. what i think...

white lie, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.. is alright..

    like your story, Miss Rachel..
    who cares about her weight?

but, can you tell me an example for a "big white lie?"
and.. have u ever done it ? =P

  3. I think a lies in weight sometimes can give a big trouble too...
Imagine when a girl lies to her bungee-jumping trainer about her weight. She says 'my weight is only 45' while her real weight is 51. Then, her trainer give her a rope that is only able to hold for 50-weighed things... I'm sure that this accidents will greatly change her life, at least she will get an unique-scarful-face and a broken nose...:p

  4. I think it is very dangerous too because if we only think about white lie, it can make us can't understand between the white lie and the 'real' one

  5. Lying makes somebody don't know the truth...

By letting him don't know the truth, it means that we let them to receive some risks or another bad things that he shouldn't receive...

It is a bad and mischief thing to do...

    Different from lie....

A white lie has the purpose not to let someone receive risks or something bad...So,it means we save him...

Certainly we must weigh first before we "lie whitely" in front of him...So,if finally we must lie to him,it must be the best solution from us to him...

I have an illustration about the white lie that had been done in a bible story...I can't find it,but l;et me try to repeat the story with my own words...

Caleb and his friend were trying to flee from the Barbarian of "Promised Land" people, who wanted to catch them, since they being spies...

Caleb and his friend couldn't go anywhere to save their lives,so they enter into a lady's house...the lady gave them help, then Caleb and his friend could hide in his home for a moment...

When the Barbarian men came, the lady said a white lie to them that Caleb wasn't there...So,they just went away from his house...Then,Caleb and his friend went out from the lady's house thankfully...

    Is it a white lie???

    That is that...

  6. But if the barbarian aks that Caleb in your house or not?
The girl can say that he is not "here"
And she not say that he is in her house
So that is not a lie but she only doesn't answer the question
