1. Do you agree about our current curriculum?
2. What’s your opinion for the best curriculum to apply?
I want to discuss this topic because I think one of the biggest problem in our country is education.
In other country, they only have few compulsory subjects and the others just an optional subjects, such as Malaysia and Singapore. As a matter of fact, their “growth” in economic, politic, industry, and so on better than us.
We was forced to study so many subjects at school which is indeed useless for us.
I don’t want tell you what subjects that I mean, because it will be an impolite manner to the teacher of the subjects.
I assume you know what is the useless subjects for you, because everyone have different view.
I think the government must have to take a stern measure to remove the subjects from compulsory to be an optinonal.
I know the government didn’t want to do it because they affraid it will cause more unemployment in this country. Nevertheless, they should be brave to do something that really need to improve the human quality of this country.
With that action, many children can concentrate in their favor and specialist subjects. As the result, children can be expert in their field and they can “bring” this country to the welfare.
All of that are my opinion.
So...what do you think about it?

I think, before think about the students, why don't we think about the teacher?
ReplyDeleteI've heard that, in other country, like English, USA, teacher's salary is the highest salary, even higher than doctor. this makes the best people will choose teacher as their job. And, of course, better the teacher, the better the student will.
In Indonesia, they don't give enough respect for teachers. Of course, people who are having outstanding ability will choose another job which can give them better livings. Even if they choose to become a teacher, they choose another country to work in, where they will bw highly respected as a teacher. Only few people who come back to Indonesia to work as a teacher-like Yoanes Surya.
So, I think, before reforming our curriculum again, it's better if we give better respect for teacher, maybe give them the highest salary, give them special status, etc. This will increase teacher's quality, and I believe with a good teacher, we will be able to make a better student, no matter what curriculum that we use..
Actually, teachers remain underpaid in the United States. Doctors make significantly more money. However, the problem you identify is a problem we discuss too. Leaders in education reform constantly talk about how we need to treat the teaching profession with more respect and better salaries.
ReplyDeleteAndreas: Do you think teacher quality is the main problem in the education system?
Amrico, this is a GREAT topic and a GREAT use of the blog. I am very curious to see your opinions. Please respond to this post!
Yes, I agree that teacher quality is one of the problem in Indonesia education system...but not for the main problem...
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, we shouldn't forget the function of curriculum...teachers taught the subjects which decided by the curriculum...so I think curriculum still be the main problem...
For the problem with the teachers quality, I also disappointed with that condition. We often hear that many teachers did everything for obtain private advantage, such as sold the test question, let the students saw or copied their friends test, and so on.
Moreover, I think it will be useless if we just increase the quality of the teachers without reforming the curriculum since a good teachers don't guarantee the students will like the subjects. For instance, even Yohanes Surya couldn't make me like physic, and I think beside me, there were many students like me.
